Beginning of a Decade

Time Travel!
I don't really know how to start this post, but hello? It's been a few months since I last written here, and guess what? I just ended my 5-months internship and I just submitted the hard copy of my report recently on Tuesday (4th February 2020). Before I begin as per usual, I must say that the 5 months I've been through internship passed through so fast, it really felt like it was just yesterday I went to the company for the first time while being clueless on what to do. Thinking back, I will miss some of the things there like my $2.00 meals, and of course some of the friends I made there. Alas, I have ended my journey there after quite a time of consideration while I was still working there. Oh and you might be wondering why there are so many new posts at one go (that is if you've noticed it). I've imported the other posts from my other blog so that I can just confine my writings to this particular blog itself. I definitely won't be doing two blogs at a time, that's just too much work, let alone typing out a post. It can take a few hours to a few days. Well, previously it took a week so yay me for adjusting back to this format! :D

1) Of War and No Peace
"Look how they massacred my boy."

I won't be talking about my internship first, that can be for the later part. This is what's interesting. As you probably know and felt by now, the beginning of the decade was no joke AT all! Everybody was celebrating, and cheering on how life would be better for themselves and the world once the clock stroked 12:00 am. Little did everyone know that was just the beginning of many terrible things to come. I was with two friends at some place called "SkyTerrace@Dawson" as we celebrated atop one of the highest buildings there while quite a number of people also had the same idea. The night was somewhat relaxing, and most of all refreshing. Not just from all the alcohol that we had, but the refreshing winds that blew on every five minutes while the night view were splendid. I have not seen such beauty since the time I was at the Premium Outlet at Genting, where the view from the Starbucks there was phenomenal. My friends and I had talks and shared hopes of what we achieved for 2020, especially since it's a new decade as well. We played Cards Against Humanities at a playground after midnight, then went to MacDonald's at Queenstown before one of them and I took the last train home.

The reason why I share this is so that when I say what's next, you will know how 0 to 100 roughly feels like. Although only one matter during January actually directly affects us, the other matters doesn't really spread joy either. Well, for the beginning of January 2020, US and Iraq had issues with each other, like friends fighting over who gets to sit with the pretty girl, or who hurt who's friend. In this case, US killed one of Iraq's generals, Qassem Soleimali. Next on the list as you all would probably remember is the Australian Bushfire that killed over a few million animals. Unfortunately, a number of the brave firefighters also died in the process as well. May they rest in peace, along with the wildlife that perished as well. Apart from that, further down the month, the helicopter where Kobe Bryant and his daughter was in crashed. Woke up to the news and I went like, "What the fuck"? Another good person of the world gone. it was too soon. Although I do not really watch basketball of sorts, I know Kobe Bryant, and he's one of the best out there. In fact, he's the best out of us all. Oh and before that, I believe another plane (Ukraine Flight PS752) crashed as well, killing as many as 176 people on board. Good lord. All that was just cream of the cake.

2) Like I said, No Peace
"The Cherry on Top"

Apparently, the worse of all came from a country's bad eating habits. From live animals to slaughtered domestic animals for brunch comes Wuhan, the land of terrible cuisines. You are probably very aware of the situation that it's caused many countries due to the virus that have grown from such practices. Practices includes eating bat soup, killing live animals, and even to the point of having markets full of them. The menu included koalas, camels and all sorts of near-extinct animals. Yes, I'm talking about the Wuhan Corona Virus, or COVID-19 as they have recently called it for no apparent reasons. I get it that they want to have it named, but couldn't they at least done it right after curing the world of the virus? Nope. Things in Singapore isn't looking too colorful as well, not since this virus issue appeared from Wuhan in 2019 sometime around November. With at least 40 over of our country men, well... around 30 if I count those infected Wuhan people out. As of now, the issue got a little bit serious, not only how people got infected with the virus, but how Singaporeans are reacting to it.

Since the DORSCON has risen over to orange level, people started panicking. I remember the afternoon the news was known to everyone, and by night time, people around the country was going to their nearest supermarkets and snatching everything they could find to survive. Apart from rice, canned food, and even drinks, oddly, most of the snatched goods were apparently instant noodles and tissue paper. While many of them were snatching and long unholy queues were formed, many irresponsible people left their baskets there and left the supermarket. The thing is, many of the things were perishables like frozen meats and such, which would spoil in a matter of minutes if not placed back in time. Don't even let me get started on those who bought masks and resell them for extraordinarily high prices on Carousell. Thankfully though, the government have taken notice and punished those who have done the deeds. However, some stores still do that so we will see how things go for them.

3) End of Another Chapter
"At the end of hardship comes happiness"

Well, the title says it all. I've just ended my internship with Binjai on Friday (31 January 2020), effectively also graduating as well. It was a rather tough last two days of work as I still got assigned quite a fair bit before I left, helping out my supervisor with something for the whole day while juggling with other things being assigned to me as well. At least it's over now and I'll just wait for graduation. At least there's still quite a few things to do before I enlist for National Service like doing up bookmarks, reading books, playing with my Nintendo Switch and more recently, running to keep myself fit while actually trying to do something productive on a daily basis. I would hardly call that productive but it's a start. I submitted my final internship report on Tuesday (4th February 2020). The deadline is supposed to be Wednesday (5th February 2020) but I'm just afraid that the printing stations would be crowded as it would as many students would probably have the same idea of submitting minutes before the deadline, either due to work or just procrastination. Either ways, all of us are done with poly. Surprisingly, the final report didn't take me very long to finish towards the end, but it was tough as the keyboard for my laptop broke down and now I'm using life support (wireless keyboard) for it. If it still works, best to make good use for it. Furthermore, the report itself is quite tough to write out, not only does the report require information that is near impossible to get, but other ways of getting said information is very tedious. Hence, it took me at least 5 weeks to get it done, also partly due to the fact that I procrastinate half-way as well as being too tired from my internship.

Two days later on Thursday (6th February 2020), I went for my NS medical check up on 12:00 pm. Much like a few years ago where I went with my ITE classmates. However this time, the entire process was much faster as I had previously done the check up before which means they already have most of my information. The stations I had to go through was only the weighing station, the photo-taking booth (they had my photo already as well), the medical consultation and last but not least, the IQ test. Waiting for the consultation was the longest as there were only like 3 medical officers in each room and they only served us once the waiting area was packed. It became a first come first serve area, and those who stood up first got to go first. Immediately after hearing about how it works, everyone hurriedly took up the front few rows, except two Malay guys who were smart to stand outside the doors so it would be their turn immediately. Lucky for me, I was in the second row and after a few guys came out, I took a seat at the front and went in after a guy came out. Note this, this entire process was about 1.5 hours... just for waiting when it was clear there were medical officers in the room and some people was ready. What the hell right? Right after that was the IQ test which took quite sometime to do as there were many, and I mean MANY questions in the forms of MCQs such as brain teasers and strangely fractions. I went my way home afterwards, while trying the new Kentaco on the way. It was practically just the chicken patty with cheese folded to be like a taco.

4) New Lease on Life
So far, nothing much have happened since I ended my internship and handed in my final internship report. It's just been a quiet life with me being at home, eating brunch with my mom, running daily at the stadium with my friend and moreover, playing my Nintendo Switch. Trust me, the games can be addictive such as Resident Evil: Revelations 2 and Minecraft. I clocked in many hours into them, especially Minecraft. Other than that, there really is nothing much. No problems, no nothing. I even apologized to one of my old school mates back in ITE for something I did wrongly in the past. He's together with a girl now. Everyone's having good lives after not being in contact with those group of people from my ITE College West class, where they know nothing but the sorrows and misery of others to fulfill their hunger for satisfaction. Still can't forget how she had the present I made for her become lost, while also complaining how the cat necklace was from Korean and brought from someone else. She LITERALLY complained about that and not care about the details and the extra stuff put into the gift. A well designed box with a plus cat inside along with extra cat earrings and the necklace. I will also never forget the most hurtful thing she have ever said, and it's not even said in front of me. Much like the common cowards from the slumps. She said, "什么男人会怎么做"? This literally translates to "What kind of man would do this"? Shocking right? Of course. That is all in the past now. Just a small recap of what not to do, a small advice for whoever is reading this as well. Only put in the effort for whoever you really truly think will be the one. Well, I shall ust end off from here. See you all really soon perhaps. Until next time!

Signing off,
Yai Kai Soon
